The Queen of the Skies

The Light Source

The above pictures really do not do the light or its size any justice at all. The actual fixture is about 30 inches in diameter and the ballast weighs 250 pounds. Note the dolly that it is attached to. This is an LTM Super Lite 12/18K that came from Pyramid Films in Burbank, California. Thanks Dave and gang....! This light draws a little better than 60 amps at 240 volts. The globe (bulb) runs right at a thousand dollars and has an expected life of approximately 250 hours. The socket assembly/igniter/reflector will be modified to work in the Sperry A.G.A. light .

Arrival - Unpacking and Testing

The light arrived on an Estes truck on June 3                                        Having a forklift handy is a good thing........!

The light and ballast came on two pallets                                               This light should do the job                                                                   A very serious bulb.....!

We are setting up the light to test the ballast, bulb and socket assembly. Is that an adult beverage on the table.....?

Running power temporarily.......don't try this at home

Ah, found a 60 amp circuit. If I look hot, it was after 2 PM and about 103 in the shade..............................                                                     Hit the switch.......................................

And we have light.....!                                             It is hard to see in the photographs, but the light is visible on objects, in very bright sunlight. It basically eliminated all shadows in the immediate area...

It is hard to appreciate the light until seen at night........

In the middle picture, I took the flash off and the trees over the buildings are 600 yards away.
