The Queen of the Skies

The Firing

We fired the light just after dark on Friday night, please see the GFS page.

Pictures were taken on the evening of October 10, 2008 by Ray Todd. The four aircraft that are silhouetted are left to right, Aero Coup, Long Eeze, Cessna 172 and a Russian YAK

"The Light" projects a beam of very intense light at low level for one mile on a 180 degree arc. That means that the light will project for over 5000 feet North and South and straight across from the tower. You can see how intense the beam is in the second picture, lighting the trees 300 yards across from the tower. Between the silhouettes and the tower, you can see the trees shadow reflected on the dam for the lake, which is a little over 3/4 of a mile from "The light" The two objects to the right of the trees are the hangar and the Country Store, which are both over a mile from the tower. This  is one of those "You have to see it to believe it" items..........! I have been around different lighting projects all of my life and I have never seen anything this intense. Hopefully we will have some aerial shots later in the year after Thanksgiving and I will post them here.
